sleeping bag confusion

hi all and thanks for all the helpful suggestions for my upcoming trek to the annapurna sanctuary...it's approaching fast and i'm really looking forward to returning to nepal
i have been procrastinating about buying a sleeping bag, doing a bit of reading about what to look for and inevitably am a bit confused; so i was hoping for some further experience from the yetizone bulletin board. so here goes...for a 10 day trek from mid-September, what sort of rating should i go for? down or synthetic? i don't plan to carry my pack this time but i do want to use the sleeping bag more than once (i'm toward the "trekking as a hobby" end of the spectrum so i don't expect to be doing anything extreme but future trips to nepal and south america for sure) so how concerned should i be about the weight?
i guess there are a lot of "it depends" in answering this question but if anyone has a ready answer for "i've had this type of sleeping bag for years and it's just fine" i would really appreciate your thoughts
