Hi Heather,

I am to be in the area for three weeks starting Aug 13. That includes a 10 day trek plus overnight camping trips to Tso Morari and Pangong. Also three days in the Nubra valley.

You would have to hire ponies and a guide/cook for your North-South trek from Lamayaru to Padum - fully outfitted with tent and gear. No tea houses unfortunately, although homestay in a *few* villages is now possible.

You would certainly need warm clothing and a good sleeping bag as it would be freezing in the high passes once it rains - and remember you would be camping outside.

Be careful if you are to be in the area between August-September as heavy rains can flood the passages for days as it did last year.

Also Kolobar's advise "to start from Lamayuru and drive from Darcha to Man*ali" would be difficult unless you have made arrange*ments for transport in advance. Padum - Darcha stretch is a week's trek and has to be supported by camps.

Email me if you need any information.
Have a good trip !!
