Okay I see you are looking at flying into Calgary. When I lived there I thumbed to trail heads. IN lake Louise near Moraine Lkae you are close to quite a few trails heads as well as some gorgeous hikes, Wenchema Pass, Larch and Sentinel, Paradise Valley.

There is a bus you can book on up to Lake O'hara and this link gives you info on the Alpine Club of Canada and camping info. The Lodge is great spot to drop in for dessert after hiking all day. You could easily spend a trip just up there hiking. I have spent several days in there twice.

Here is another site that also has camping info etc. A great base to hike into and then do trips from there.
: : Where are you talking? Whistler, Garibaldi park, Banff? Let me know the area and then I can answer transportation issues.
: : : quick question, what kind of public transportation options are there to go back and forth from trailheads? i keep reading about access by car, what happens to visitors, who want to hike and not drive around? there seem to be a few private transportation companies like brewster and white mountain adventures, are these the only options? they seem expensive! i'm going to start researching more earnestly now ... thanks.
