Day 9 White Horse Hill to Mount Wells |
Today on the Bibbulmun Track is an easy walk as 10 kilometres is part of a broad flat valley. The old Hume Tank Logging Camp is perfectly situated for a lunch break at the half way mark. Final 2 kilometres is a short, steep climb up to the lovely summit of Mont Wells. The 360 degree views are awesome. |

Left White Horse Hill at 8:15am and arrived at Mount Wells at 2:30pm. Had a nice relaxing time at the old Hume Tank logging camp, about one and a half hour's lunch. Left a mint backscratch in a 'waugal' sign for anyone behind me. [Editor's note - a 'mint' backscratch is not a chocolate bar, but in fact an excellent back-scratching stick] I'm growing rather fond of afternoon siestas, which freshen one up for a trek up Mount Wells. I fell in love with Mount Wells as soon as I saw it. On a plateau with awesome views, a ducky enclosed cabin complete with old wood stove, all nestled amongst blooming banksias, wattle and lavender bushes. There is also an old fire lookout tower that you can climb halfway up. Had a cuppa there and read the visitor book, Played with boomerang after collecting firewood, which is usually my first duty on arrival.. Rubbed lavender under my 'pit of hell' armpits. Must tell my mate Robby from Woolies about this place. Hermits Paradiso! [Editor's note - "Woolies" is the term for the supermarket chain Woolworths] Toasty warm in hut. |
