Day 58 Hidden Valley to Albany |
From Hidden Valley you can see and just about taste the spoils of Albany! The Bibbulmun Track continues to weave in and out along the coast passing near huge windmill generators. If you're lucky you may see dolphins, or even whales between the months of July and October. The Bibbulmun Track leaves the coast and heads north towards Albany after about 8 kilometres. A gradual ascent towards Little Grove, a long walk around Frenchman's Bay and your mission is complete. |

![]() Left my last hut on the Bibbulmun Track at 7:30 am. Each step is done with a spring in my step knowing that it will all be over today. Very windy conditions meant that I was glad to leave the coast after about 8 kilometres. Skirting Frenchman's Bay around 11 am, I saw Margaret who I met at Denmark Backpackers (she is Danish). She told me about the YHA on Duke Street, which I ducked into right on 12:10 to watch Makybe Diva win the Melbourne Cup. Watched a bit of video, Shawshank Redemption, and chatted with Simon till 1:45 pm. Left to hit Southern Terminus a 2pm and meet Mum and Kate. Saw them before the finish line, at the Amity Boat, so after a brief chat, and tour of the ship, I reached my final destination at 2:40pm. Booked in at the YHA and then walked to Dog Rock Motel for lovely dinner at Albany Church of Christ with Mum and Kate (sister) who coincidentally were on holiday in Albany. Finishing the walk was a bit of an anti-climax but the walk was about the journey rather than the destination. 58 days of simplicity, living out of a backpack, is hard to sum up or put into adequate words. I think Luigi Momel sums it up best out of the Bibbulmun Track log book when she says: "Getting out in the bush, away from the hassles of city life is something everyone needs to do." I agree. It certainly was a peaceful, happy experience. Thanks for trekking with me... Getting back to Perth - if that's where you are going, is by bus - see details in the YHA. |
