Day 48 Rame Head to Peaceful Bay

10.5 kilometres

Track descends to the coast then for most of this section you walk along rocky headlands and beaches. Beautiful coastline, with great views from Castle Rock (7.3 kilometres). Many 4WD tracks today, so keep a keen eye out for the waugals! Peaceful Bay lives up to its name with a population of 60 for most of the year. Limited facilities.

After another big day yesterday I was a bit slow to get moving. Lovely sunny day, great ocean views from Rame Head campsite as I depart at 9am. Only 11 kilometres to Peaceful Bay, but by no means an easy day. Swampy and sandy, but with wonderful coastline with many choice bays. Met Belgian guy named Cohen about 2 kilometres from Peaceful Bay who mentioned he had been with WOOF [Editor's note - many Belgians are strange, but this Aussie acronym means Working On Organic Farm]

Rented out a ducky old caravan for $15 per night. Seems I have caravan park all to myself. Town has character beach shacks on gravel roads with plenty of trees. Not much to do here but enjoy the sights, walk, read and have fish and chips which I did. Oh, yes, had a swim before arriving in Peaceful Bay, clear ocean, gritty sand, nice.

Ya gotta love it!

WWOOF = Willing Workers on Organic Farms.

WWOOF is a work scheme for backpackers, etc., You sign up to the scheme and get a book of job listings ranging across Oz. You can work on farms, do child-minding or whatever, there is quite a range of jobs. The pay rate is modest but you usually get food and lodging included. We have met many people who are working their way round Oz with the help of this scheme. Other job schemes include fruit picking. In a country as large as Oz there is always fruit picking going on. Whether you can stand it for long periods is another matter!
