Day 41 Lake Maringup to Dog Pool |
Many long swampy sections on this flat hike within D'Entrecastaux and Shannon National Parks. Do not wade in bare feet, and unclip your rucksack waist belts in water above knee high. If you do not like wading, then avoid this section between the months of July to November. Dog Pool Campsite is on the banks of the Shannon River. |

![]() Woke up early but cloud cover prevented spectacular sunrise over the lake. On the road at 7:30am, big day today 24.5 kilometres.. Had a nice lunch break at the 14 kilometre mark. Hermon and Anneke arrived a bit later and had lunch their too as did many large march flies! Long swampy sections were interesting but no need for wading like yesterday. Was leg weary after long walk, arriving at kick off time of 2:15pm. Dog Pool camp site is by a lovely river with rapids and a 36 metre long footbridge. With much sadness, Hermon and I collected wood for our last fire on the track. Metho stove only from here to Albany, because there is limited wood to fuel fires with. Slept on the top bunk for a change, seems a bit warmer. Sound of river made me get up to piss lots. Dreaming of Red Rooster. [Editor's note - Red Rooster is yet another Australian chicken fast food chain] ![]() |
