Time (excluding rests)

8 hours

Distance

20.9 kilometres

Kalamunda National Park with its wildflowers and the Mundaring Weir are the main highlights of today's walk. The first 3 kilometres descends down to the Piesse Brook, and is fairly rocky underfoot. It's a steady climb for the next 4 kilometres then a fairly easy 7 kilometres down to the Mundaring Weir. From there it's another steady climb to the Ball Creek Campsite.

The author takes his last proper rest for 1,000 kilometres

Cath (my lift) and I had a lovely tea in Kalamunda, we took photographs, then off I went at 9:30am. Got lost within the first kilometre, tripped over shoelaces twice. While resting on a large rock my drink bottle spurted an orange and mango shower over me. Not a good start.

Beautiful walk through Kala National Park. Met a fellow hiker, Morgan, at Hewitt's Hill Campsite. He's a legend who has no food (just water) a swag and a light pack. Got lost together around South Ledge and found ourselves going in circles. We eventually found the trail downhill towards the weir, which was a relief.

Arrived Ball Creek at about 5:30pm having done 25 kilometres on the first day. Must lighten load.

Had a good chat with Morgan - he's a kindred spirit, which is really amazing. Rain is falling steadily on the tin roof. I'm tired.

Goodnight diary

Wet day - sore shoulders - wish I had trained

Just follow the Bibbulun Track's waugals all the way to Albany

Great read Michael. I've done Giants to Walpole, Mundaring Wear to North Banister (not in one go and not necessarily in that order) Broke Inlet Rd - Northcliff, Pemby to just before Shaffner and Donnelly River to Seven day Rd, where I pulled out to go to the winery on Vasse Hwy...did have injury.
Starting to think about my next time out...5 weeks time. Your read is helping me decide where to go next. Thinking Collie to Ballingup or maybe back to Donnerly River. Now theres an idea.

Anyway, thanks for the read. For an idea of the track, this is a very good resource. I look forward to reading your entries in the hut logs.

Cheers
Tina
