Take the broad path
north downhill
towards the Himalayas...

A new Best Western under construction...

Walk north out of Chisopani taking the broad path downhill. Pass the strangely named ‘Prevention Camp Established 1997’ (40 minutes). At 1 hour 10 minutes there is a choice of paths. Take the left hand downhill path which then winds around to the right. Soon the path turns back left and descends (1 hour 35 minutes). The path is rather loose.

Pass the Pati lodge and restaurant [27° 50.59’N 85 85° 27.46’E 1,950 metres] where in October 1999 there was a new lodge under construction.

Just below is the Newari village of Pati Bhanjang. The village lies at the saddle of the ridge and is a natural crossing point. Technically it is a ‘gap’. You are walking along a north-south ridge that divides the district of Nawakot in the west, from Sindhu Palchok in the east. You will follow this ridge all the way to Syabru. This north-south ridge crosses a series of east-west ridges. The east-west ridges are larger. So the ridge you are on snakes up and down to cross these bigger ridges. Pati Bhanjang [1,750 metres] lies in the first gap. It has many hotels:

Sewa Sedan Lodge
Pati Bhanjang Lodge
Diana Lodge - named after Princess Di - who probably will become a Hindu goddess one day.
Everest Lodge
Shiva Puri Lodge

Pati Bhanjang lies in
a gap on the ridge.

The village also has a police post, post box and two schools. Walk through the village past the begging children and start uphill (1 hour 40 minutes), then follow the path around to the left (west).

The Lama Guest House lies at the foot of a steep climb (2 hours 20 minutes). The lodge displays the first Buddhist prayer flags on the trek, and these seem to mark the beginning of the real Himalayas.

Climb the hill, passing through a small village and the Chipling Lama lodge (3 hours 25 minutes). The path turns left on a level track. Pass the:

Himalaya Guest House
Lama Lodge

Evening at Dorje Lodge...

...and later the Chipling Restaurant [27°51.94’N 85°27.69’E]. A little further on is the Chipling Guest House (3 hours 40 minutes). At some stone steps (4 hours) begin another steep climb upwards. At the top of this climb is the ridge of Chipling Danda (4 hours 25 minutes). [27°52.60N 85°27.64’E 2,394 metres] There are two very small lodges here. I stayed at the Dorje Lodge which had only one room. The view from here is magnificent.
