One of the aspects of my interest in trains has been recording them at work. This started in the 70's, recording steam with primitive audio equipment. I was mainly interested in the sounds of steam and have continued recording the various society's tours up to the present day, but now using the latest digital audio recording (DAT) technology. The trading name SteamArena was registered in order to fulfil a long held intention of publishing the best of these recordings.
In 1992, Australian Broadcasting
Corporation Enterprises approached myself and a fellow train recordist, Tim Arnot, from RailRecord asking us to supply a collection of steam recordings to supplement a book publication that it was producing. So, soon after, "The Sound Of Steam" was born, and was followed by "Double Header".
Copies of the CD "Sounds of Steam" and the audio tape cassette "Double Header" can now be ordered through the mail from Tim Arnot.
