The Zambesi River and Victoria
Falls from a helicopter. The gash in the landscape is about 1600m
wide. |
| From ground level, the spray
often falls over the walkway to the viewpoints. |

I went on the elephant ride
because I wanted the opportunity to get a good look at an African elephant.
We were told that all the elephants used for riding were orphans
from a drought in the early 1990s. The tourist elephant ride was
introduced there as a way to pay for the substantial upkeep of a lot of
growing beasts. |
| After the ride, visitors are
allowed a short interaction time with their elephants. Mine was keen
to show how clean his teeth were... |

One of the things to experience
in Victoria Falls, is High Tea at the Victoria Falls Hotel. The view
from the balcony is lovely, the scones are rather good, and by all accounts,
the cocktails are very cheap. |
|
Due to the economic problems
in Zimbabwe, paying the bill can be rather amusing. Our bill for High
Tea came to Zim$84000. At the time, about US$12 a head. The
largest note available is Zim$500, hence the stack of money. The white paper on the left is the $84,000 bill. |
