Botswana, July 2003
|
| This is an aerial view of
a small part of the Okavango Delta. Most of the group on the truck
went for a 3 day trip into the delta by mokoro (native dugout canoe), camping
by the side of the river. |
|
| In the foreground is a 'modern'
fibreglass moulded mokoro. Behind is a traditional carved mokoro.
The new one, you are pretty much guaranteed to stay dry. The
old ones can be a bit leaky... Here we went out to watch sunset over
the delta. |
|
|
On our late afternoon 'sunset'
paddle, we watched a hippo in a deeper pool on the delta. |
| The anticipated sunset... |
|
|
While at the delta, we went
on several game walks at sunrise and sunset. Best game spotted was
a pride of lions, but they were off into the grass before we could grab proof
on camera! |
|
Lions, with photographic evidence...
This pride of lions was finishing up breakfast. Remains of
a baby elephant were seen, and occasionally, a lion would go back for another
bite. |
| Lots of hippos sunning themselves
on the banks of the Chobe river. This was still early morning, before
they retreat to the water. |
|
|
Who is watching who, Mrs Baboon? |
| A giraffe coming in for a closer
look at us. |
